JAWS.io Mobile Game Devours The Competition

Although Steven Spielberg’s Jaws is widely considered to be one of the greatest movies ever made, the franchise has had a less than stellar track record when it comes to video games. Jaws Unleashed, for instance, was a barely playable mess where you opened doors by picking people up with your teeth and holding them in front of electronic card readers. However, fans can put all that behind them now, because Jaws.io, which has just launched on mobile devices, is the first video game truly worth of carrying the Jaws name.

The competitive multiplayer game was published by Universal Studios Interactive, and has you controlling either Jaws or a fishing boat, as you compete to see who can either rescue or eat the most people before the timer runs out. Although up to seven players can compete in any given match, only one can control Jaws, so make sure you arrive first if you want to get in on the great white action.

As this is a self-proclaimed ‘hyper casual’ mobile game, Jaws.io utilizes a simple one finger control scheme, making it ideal to play when you’re on the go and don’t have the time or the energy to master complex gameplay mechanics. But don’t let that fool you into thinking this is something you’ll be able to put down easily, because if this extended gameplay video is anything to go by, it looks addictive as Hell.

Jaws.io is free to play, but includes a number of in-game purchases, including the option to remove adds and to play as other shark species instead of the great white from the film. If you’re okay with that, you can learn more about Jaws.io at the following links.
