Grey Skies: A War of the Worlds Story Brings The Classic Alien Tripods To Next-Gen Consoles

Now here’s a little game that might have flown under your radar amidst all the excitement. There’s a new War of the Worlds game set to invade our storefronts! Based on the classic H. G. Wells novel, Grey Skies: A War of the Worlds Story premiered a new trailer during The Escapist Indie Showcase. There was an earlier announcement trailer that I’ve linked above, but since under 6k people have watched it at time of writing it’s safe to say that this one is still pretty unknown.

A lot of the game is still a mystery. Here Grey Skies‘ description in its entirety from developer Steel Arts Software’s official website:

Our latest title. A tense third person stealth based thriller set in rural England. Grey Skies, based on H.G.Wells The War of the Worlds, puts you in control of Harper, following her personal story amidst the most significant event in human history.

A handfull of you might be familiar with the developer Steel Arts from their previous title, Welcome to Hanwell. An open world survival horror game, Welcome to Hanwell has received mixed reviews. Still, the game proves that the team are willing to take some risks and try to push the limits of the genre. Whether or not Grey Skies will implement a similar open-world formula is yet to be seen. What the trailer shows is some stealth, climbing, and a giant tripod shooting lasers. Chances are this will be some kind of sneak-em-up.

It’s hard to find any information on the game. It seems like the game went through a name change at some point from just War of the Worlds to Grey Skies: A War of the Worlds story. Not to be confused with a completely different game called Grey Skies, which appears to be an action FPS. However, Steel Arts Software is shooting to get Grey Skies: A War of the Worlds onto next-gen consoles. How this will coincide with their current release date of Q3 2020 is unclear. Maybe a PC release first? Who knows. If you want to check with the developers and see if you can learn more, you can find their website by clicking here.
