Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries Of New York Gets New Gameplay Trailer

I know a lot of people that are die-hard visual novel fans. Like, a shocking amount. For how many copies the newest edition of Man Shooter: American Wetdream sells, there are hordes of people out there who just want to curl up with a nice cup of tea and read a good story. And maybe romance some dreamy boys, but that’s a given. And yet, people tend to say, “oh, it’s a visual novel,” with the same tone and inflection you’d use when you find out a film was produced by Harvey Weinstein. I hope that someday society evolves at a point where you can enjoy visual novels without people moving three seats away from you on the bus.

With the new trailer here for Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York, we finally get to see what kind of game is in store for us when it launches on December 4th. And yeah, it kind of looks like a visual novel. From the footage you see above, there’s a lot of text over still images. However, the developers did elaborate in the comments that, “This video present only basic gameplay, still in Coteries there will be some additional mechanics like quests, hunger, feeding, disciplines and time progress.” This is nothing new, games like Phoenix Wright are essentially just visual novels mixed with hidden-object puzzles. And before you go wild with your breakdown of just how wrong I am and how Phoenix Wright revolutionized the industry, calm down, I like those games.

So with Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York, we are still waiting to see just how hunger, feeding, skills, etc., all fit into the final fabric of the game. Chances are, the main focus will still be the story, with these different aspects simply unlocking new pathways or dialogue options. I highly doubt you’ll just be able to rage out and play the game as an FPS. But who knows, maybe it’s all a surprise Man Shooter sequel. Hopefully, we see a new trailer soon giving us some insight into these mechanics. Otherwise, we’ll all find out when Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York drops on December 4th.
