Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water Ports Coming 2021

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will come out later this year, according to KOEI TECMO. This release is an enhanced port of the 2014 WiiU title of the same name. Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will come to North American versions of the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. KOEI TECMO America released a new reveal trailer in today’s announcement as well.

Along with the upgraded visuals, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will include a new Photo Mode. Players can now set up various characters and ghosts to create their own scenes. There are also new costumes for the main characters, letting you further customize the pictures.

As in the original release, players journey to Mt. Hikami, a sacred place blighted by mysterious accidents and strange happenings. Some say that there’s a body of water hidden in the mountains haunted by angry, vengeful ghosts. Yuri Kozukata, Ren Hojo, and Miu Hinasaki journey to the eeriest parts of the mountain in search of answers. Armed with a flashlight and the iconic Camera Obscura, they’ll have to use their wits to survive and learn the fate of the missing people.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water Ghost Combat
I’m beginning to suspect these pasty picnickers are really ghosts.

Fatal Frame is a survival-horror series in which the player takes pictures of ghosts in order to exorcise them. The first game, simply titled Fatal Frame, released on the Sony PlayStation 2 in 2001. Japanese players will recognize it as Zero, and European players will know it instead as Project Zero. A loose film adaptation of the series, Gekijô-ban: Zero, released in Japanese theaters in 2014.

Other properties by KOEI TECMO include hack-and-slash classics Dynasty/Samurai Warriors (KOEI), Dead or Alive (TECMO), and Ninja Gaiden (TECMO). The parent company of the American branch, KOEI TECMO HOLDINGS CO., LTD, is headquartered in Yokohama, Japan.
