Mortal Kombat Movie Trailer Looks Like Intense Fun

Get over here! …And watch the trailer for the new Mortal Kombat movie, which looks like a lot of fun.

This reboot of the 1995 classic, which is of course based on the 1992 video game of the same name, looks like it’ll have all the spectacular action expected from the series. The trailer shows off several violent fights and popular characters from the fighting game franchise. It focuses on Cole Young, played by Deadpool 2 and Wu Assassins actor Lewis Tan, an MMA fighter and a new character to the franchise. Maybe he’ll even show up in some future games!

While the main character is new, we got to see plenty of people we know and love. Kano (Josh Lawson) shoots lasers out of his eye, Jax (Mehcad Brooks) has his arms exploded and replaced with robot arms, and Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) hits someone with his chain and screams “Get over here!” This is all I wanted. Perhaps my favorite part of the trailer sees Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) fighting Scorpion, and at one point cutting him, flash freezing his blood into a knife, and stabbing him with it. It’s super slick, and made for an exciting bit of action.

Mortal Kombat will be hitting both theaters and HBO Max on April 16th, 2021.
