Surreal Metroidvania GRIME Releases New Gameplay Video
Upcoming indie game GRIME released yesterday a new video detailing gameplay. Created by developer Clover Bite, GRIME is an unusual Metroidvania where you play as an anthropomorphic black hole. And as you can see from the trailer, a stone humanoid with a singularity for a head is not even close to the strangest part of this title.
GRIME takes place in a strange rock world which looks like an artistic mashup of Salvador Dali and Zdzisław Beksiński. Birthed into this place as “a unique material collapses in on itself,” the now nameless character you play as is fresh out of the cosmic womb and into a harsh reality. All you can do is pick up your bizarre weapon, speak to the surreal denizens, and fight your way through maddening enemies.
The new gameplay for GRIME shows a bit of what we already knew, now in more thorough detail. It is a sidescrolling Metroidvania taking heavy inspiration from Soulslike games. Displayed in the trailer are several interesting weapons with alternate forms similar to the Bloodborne trick weapons. We also knew that the black hole son can use his singularity to suck up enemies for various benefits. Now, we see that the enemies sucked can be used for various passive abilities.
