Spoopy Cartoon Adventure Bookbound Brigade Putting New Spin On Metroidvania January 30th

Do you love spoopy shit? Of course you do. Everyone does. It’s pretty much designed to trigger every pleasure center of your brain at once. If you’re not familiar with the term, spoopy refers to something that is both scary and adorable. The bashful Boos of Super Mario Brothers are an early example. When you look at them, they’re these adorably shy little cartoon ghost balls. Turn your back, and they reveal their adorable little fangs. There’s no denying the creepiness of a monster that only stalks when you’re not looking, it’s just so goddamn cute about it.

Soon to be added to the spoopy canon, Bookbound Brigade is cartoonifying some of literature’s most iconic monsters. Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, Medusa, The Big Bad Wolf, Sharkman… okay I’m not exactly sure where that last one comes from. But just look at the guy. He’s so adorably gruff and menacing!

Dawww, the hideous monstrosity done got bonked on his noggin

Aside from the spoopiness, Bookbound Brigade is also looking to shake up the Metroidvania genre. As you can tell from the trailer, the game takes place in a mashup of many different iconic works of literature. Rather than play as a single character, you play as eight different characters bundled together. Your merry band includes Dracula, King Arthur, Dorothy, Cassandra, Sun Wukong, Robin Hood, Queen Victoria, and Nicolai Tesla. Each member brings their own unique powers to the party, which can be used to fight enemies and access new areas. The brigade will also be able to assume different formations, allowing them to traverse new areas and avoid attacks. It’s all pretty well explained in their second trailer.

So if you’re a fan of books, spoopy stuff, or Metroidvania games, then you should take a peek at Bookbound Brigade. It’s coming to the PS4, PC, and Switch on January 30th for $19.99. You can click here to check out the Steam page for more info.
