Ultra-Indie Daily Dose: Enjoy The Great Outdoors In Ambient Horror Approaches

Hello, you glorious gluttons for all things indie horror! Are you just starving for the newest of the new, the most unknownest of the unknown? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Welcome to the Ultra-Indie Daily Dose! In this series, we’re going to pick a new game every day from an indie horror creator you’ve probably never heard of. No million-dollar budgets or factory productions. This is the space for the little guy with not but a developer toolkit and a dream. So if you’re down to roll the dice on something different, then stick around and check it out!

Welcome back for another Ultra-Indie horror game! We’re back after a busy weekend following the Dread X Collection 3 launch, and hopefully we’ll be able to make the Dose a lot more Daily. Our indie game today is Approaches by developer Shane Yach. Created for the Haunted PS1 Horrifying Halloween jam, this title can be summed up as dark Firewatch.

In Approaches you play as some kind of radio repair person who is fixing an installation on a tower in the woods. It has puzzles that are solved by, in my playthrough, oafishly pressing buttons and hoping for the best. All the while, you are able to take in the beautiful mountain views, enjoy the great outdoors, and wonder what’s agitating all these birds nearby.

Approaches is available for free on itch.io here.
