Ultra-Indie Daily Dose: Resident Evil Style Survival Horror Breach Is A 2D Take On A 3D Genre
Breach is a survival horror inspired by the classics. Created by itch.io user RetroDEV for the Retro Jam 1, Breach channels the dark claustrophobia of Silent Hill and the in-a-weird-industrial-corridor shooting of Resident Evil. With some stealth mechanics involved as well, it’s a pretty neat little throwback, now in 2D form.
In Breach, you play as a nameless explorer. He’s got a leather jacket and holds his rigid arms out at a 300° angle while seeming to point downwards, so I’m just going to call him Fonzie. Fonzie is some kind of urban explorer, who stumbles across the abandoned research facility for some kind of chemical plant. Your objective is to discover what happened in this place, and also not get killed by the writhing horrible creatures that roam the halls.
It’s only about 20ish minutes long, as is to be expected for a game jam title, but Breach is certainly a great idea that could (and should!) definitely be expanded upon. You can try out Breach for free on itch.io by clicking here. And be sure to follow Retro on Twitter by clicking here.
